DEALING WITH WARLORDS: TOUGH BUT DOABLE WORK

Erle Frayne Argonza Warlordism is an extreme form of patron-client relations. In Manila this had all but disappeared, save for one city here whose mayor hails from a small town in the North and brought his tough-guy mindset to his city. But in the provinces it is still a trend, though already a declining one. As a sociologist, economist and development expert, I thought all the while that warlordism would disappear with the advent of urbanization. As urbanization permeates every nook of… Continue

GONZAGA’S BAGOONG BRIGHTENS YOUR DAY

Erle Frayne D. Argonza Two towns away to the east of Appari, Cagayan is the town of Gonzaga. Like its neighboring towns of Sta Ana (to its east) and Ballesteros (to its west), and those other coastal towns north of Cagayan, Gonzaga is home to fishery engagements. These are largely small fishers, or municipal fishers who could only go fishing by as much as ten (10) kilometers from the shoreline. A town in the doldrums economically, this town though had the luck of being chosen as the site for t… Continue

LONG LINE TUNA MAKES EVERYONE HAPPY

Erle Frayne Argonza Tuna sandwich, tuna adobo, grilled tuna, and more tuna. We’re surely a happy people here in the islands, based on Asian researches showing that in fact we’re the happiest people. I’d say tuna is among those fauna that satiates our appetites and make us happily fulfilled. In case you fellows would want to know what gears are used to catch tuna—that would not damage the environment nor the infantile tuna—let this be told. Muro ami and purse seiners are still in among some com… Continue

COMMUNICATING CHANGE – GRASSROOTS

Erle Frayne D. Argonza Development communication is a fascinating field of development management, and I speak about the subject through experience. Here I’d focus on communicating change to the grassroots, my early experience being the first designated Public Relations Manager – Region II of the (defunct) Ministry of Human Settlements or MHS. (That’s a Director I post by the way, and I was only 24 years old then.) Change programs for the marginal sectors are not just matters of social… Continue

Hello Erle,

I work mainly in Marketing Merchandising and Press and right now I am developing a campaign AGAINST Xenophobia in South Africa (and all over the world) exactly creating a project using the sustainable resources and I am looking for support fund raising and cooperation with professionals interested to join this cause.
I think you are aware what happening in South Africa with immigration of population from Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
If you know anything or somebody to help could be a good help. Thank you to accept in your group.

Hello Erle,

Thanks for the tips. Once I am in Mexico, I will have a better idea of the project. I am interested in using this project as a community development tool. From what I know about the project, the biologist has experience in producing fertilizers with leaves and other compostable materials. I think they are exploring building greenhouses, use solar panels for energy, building rainwater catchment systems and growing tomatoes. I will appreciate your notes on organic farming and biodiversity.
Thank you,
Omar

Hello Frayne, thanks for the friend invite. I am very impressed about the work that you are doing. I am just getting ready to go on an academic exchange to Mexico City. It seems that a lot of my focus while I am down there will be to help get an organic farming project off the ground. There seems to be about 8 - 10 partners involved (farmers, biologists, engineers, etc.).
I actually have had no previous experience on organic farming so I might have to connect with you at one point for resources.
Best regards,

Omar

hi ERLE,

I'm contemplating to establish a sub-group at SPHP GLOBAL Network for Filipino citizens and those with Filipino lineage among the members of DEVELOPMENT CROSSING. Tentatively, the sub-group can be named "PINOYS in DEVELOPMENT".

How about visiting SPHP GLOBAL Network and then sharing your thoughts about it?

See you there.
