Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability

I wanted to give a shout out to a peer in the microfinance industry.

There was good news out of the White House last week. President Obama intends to nominate Maria Otero, President and CEO of ACCION International as the new Under Secretary of Global Affairs at the State Department. Otero will be a sharp, articulate, and inspiring leader. In selecting Otero, Obama brings one of the world's leading voices on microfinance into his circle. Since joining ACCION in 1986, Otero has expanded their reach to 25 countries on four continents. Not only is she a true leader in microfinance, but she is a qualified leader with serious skills that can really contribute to this effort.

Maria, I salute you and wish you many successes.

Dear Mr Drew Tulchin,,
Thanks for this update, am pleased to note the appointment of someone who understands the importance of MF. We should voice our concerns about the poor and downtroden more loudly to the concerned as how the negative influences of developed countries impacting the developing countries in every sense. This is not to blame anyone but to highlight the concerns of poor, who are helplessly remaining at the bottom of the pyramid. I think There are many ways we can explore to work with and on the issues, only concern is the leaders or the decision makers should lead by standing in the front to address these issues and support Microfinance which can atleast help the poor. ON initiating the action with Microfinance we can encourage people to Micro Entreprise , this addresses the cause.

A great choice indeed! I love what Accion is doing around the world and good to see some of that mentality making its way to the State Department.
