Our just ended Undertaking PEFA Assessments course was attended by PEFA consultants from Mozambique and Ghana. We also had a representative from the Belgian Technical Cooperation, a donor agency. The professional development workshop provided an in depth appreciation of the PEFA Performance Measurement Framework as well as a full bag of practical tools to carry out PEFA assessments. There were also techniques shared to avoid falling into the trap of merely carrying out PEFA as a tick box exercise.
The course was a deemed a success by participants. Michel Tierens (Belgian Technical Cooperation) in a follow up note expressed his “thanks for a highly valuable and enlightening course on matters that, tough as they were, never failed to fascinate and that will continue to open up questions in the years to come”.
This week we are running the Foundations of Public Finance Management (PFM), with participants from Ghana and Botswana's ministries of finance as well as from an NGO, the Parliamentary Centre. Botswana is currently undergoing a PFM reform and looks to this professional development workshop to help build capacity to support its reform efforts.
