Dubai to build the largest arch Bridge – Necessary?

The largest bridge. If any real city on our planet can claim an active stake in creating unnecessary urban landscape, it's probably Dubai. Artificial islands arranged in the shape of the world? The world's only seven-star hotel? And in 2012, it will also become home to the largest, tallest arch bridge ever. A recent environmental study shows the bridge is totally unnecessary to improve the infrastructure. It is simple another prestige symbol for Dubai. Why are they not spending the money on sustainable development projects?

I can't wait till Dubai's economy falls, because to maintain that kind of landscape needs lot of money.
By the way... It will have 12 lanes for male-only driver traffic.

By the way I am not a big fan of Dubai and their legal system too.

From a technological standpoint and an architectural one, it is indeed quite impressive to what they are achieving in what is essentially a city in the middle of a desert. However, from an environmental standpoint I can imagine it does put a lot of strain considering the amount of resources needed for such an initiative. Not to mention, imagine the negative environmental impact caused by the indoor ski slopes they have there!

Guys... I agree with you but it still is a sweet looking bridge.

Nice comments, I could not agree more.

I was in Dubai a few months ago and the place is truly an incredible site to see. Beyond the massive buildings and developments rising out of the sand, it is progressing towards being another financial pillar (NY, London, Tokyo) in the world.

What?!! If you all think the said dreamthing bridge is unecessary (what I think it is), just take a look of how much a guy paid for a mere license plate with the number 1 on it - $ 14 million... The deed took place in a charity auction in Abu Dhabi a few days ago. And, pasm sirs, the winning bidder said in an interview that a license with Nº 1 is the best number and that he bought it because he wanted to be the best in the world. The irony in it all is that the money is going to help a rehabilitation center for victims of traffic accidents...

...i guess on the bright side it is planned to have a metra line in the middle? not that there will be much reason to use it as i am sure there wont be might traffic to fight in the 12 lanes...
