Mark Harrison Kraft Foods Cadury deal under investigation by MP's.

Heavily in debt Kraft Foods (estimated at 22 billion USD) was allowed to buy Cadbury's the UK chocolate maker recently for 18.9 billion USD. The union representing many of Cadbury's workforce asked for assurances that Kraft would not close factories. Well guess what after giving assurances to the Cadbury board and the workers that no closures would occur they have announced a 'review' of this decision. An MP select commitee will hear representations from both Kraft and Cadbury bosses Marc Firest… Continue

Ian Berry Linchpins, Trusted Agents, Family, Friends, Colleagues, Who do you rely on? Who is relying on you?

I feel despair when so called world leaders fail to collaborate and therefore what needs to happen with climate change, economics, you name it, doesn’t happen.

On the other hand I feel excitement, inspiration, and exhilaration when I see or hear of so called ordinary people making a difference. I am convinced more than ever that positive and productive change is personal first, local second, the world third.

Aside from law and order, maintaining some infrastructures and saf… Continue

Kunj Mann Experiences from a tribal village

I was walking hurriedly towards Ambavi when suddenly a man whose face was familiar, stopped me and made a request. This request was bitter than any of the requests I have ever had. He became so cruel in my eyes that I felt strongly to thrash him, at least with words. I was in a hurry and I kept walking. The man actually said to me to look for if there is somebody sick or in great need of money and willing to sell any livestock.

Kunj Mann What we should and what should we not?

Passengers should refuse to ride in any vehicle driven by someone who has been drinking. Besides, given the perils of passive smoking they should also not let anybody smoke in public transport and any other public places. And there are many such things which people should do but they don’t. Reasons can be aplenty. “What I have to do?”, “I cannot do it alone” and “Look my contribution will hardly make a difference in the situation.” These

Kunj Mann Are all the mothers same?

It has been quite some time that I left my home for studies and work and so did many of my friends. In many of the conversations with friends I realized that I'm not alone who is nostalgic (admitting hereby). We persistently used to miss the home cooked food and everything else. One of the strategies which I followed while in college was to befriend girls who were living with their families and then become a parasite to their lunch boxes! It worked most of the times and I was happy.

Kunj Mann Should water be free?

Every other day some prophet or some political leader come calling that the next world war will be over water. True, truths are always bitter. In the recent years, there has been a lot of discussion over sustainable development and to check the over exploitation of natural resources. Climate activists have suddenly sprung up all over the world. Among all the natural resources water stands as the most important. It not only keeps the humans, animals and plants alive but also lubricates our indust… Continue

Will Marre Business Strategy Not Philanthropy

Corporate Responsibility Magazine just released their 2010 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. The categories that companies were judged on are environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, governance, philanthropy, and financial. While the list offers insight as to companies that are striving to be good corporate citizens, to be honest, looking at the list makes my stomach turn. As the saying goes, figures never lie, but liars figure.

It seems that a key question that… Continue

Kenneth Westling Kids don't need a role model, they need an early bloomer

Finally found the motivation to post...I wish I could find the inspiration to do it earlier on in the day but for some reason I seem to be able to write much better during the night...oh well. Here is an Ad called Early Bloomers, and its tag line is "Kids don't need a role model, they need an early bloomer."

Kenneth Westling Security Issues

Hi everyone! I hope everyone has had a great weekend so far. Now it’s time to turn our attention to those people out there who like to make other peoples lives a living hell by infecting their computers with viruses or getting their passwords somehow, or even somehow getting into their banking information!
I don’t think there is a huge difference between generations or national groups when it comes to understanding privacy, confidentiality, and security. Everyone has an innat

Kenneth Westling Websites: The Face of an Organization

The website I have chosen to analyze is Facebook. Facebook is a social networking site whose purpose is to offer millions of people around the world the ability to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.
Until recently, Facebook was typically used for personal use but with the sudden increase in popularity of social media, Facebook has been turned into a great resource for companies to

Kenneth Westling Appropriate Technological Infrastructure

A good process to identify and match a company’s technological infrastructure to its organizational mission is determining how much your business relies on IT. For example, if you work for an organization whose mission is to strive for a better environment, like the World Wildlife Fund, you would research IT infrastructure that could be used by the organization to reduce its carbon footprint. WWF Environmental Policy: “Good environmental practices in the way we work go hand in hand with

Kenneth Westling Socio-Technical Organizations

Sorry about the delay of this post, but for some reason or another I have had some trouble logging onto Blackboard these past few days, and today it wasn’t working at all. I would like to first begin by saying that this is probably one of the biggest problems facing many companies that are based solely online. The threat of your consumers not being able to connect to your website would result in significant losses and possibly some backlash. Luckily, thi

Kenneth Westling Beginning to think about e-business

So as a way to sort of use what I have been doing in school to this site is to start combining things. I'm taking an e-business class that requires us to write posts on a variety of topics.
