Troy Freund, American, b. 1973
Troy Freund was raised on a small Wisconsin dairy farm, surrounded by his parents and five brothers. The love of family and the importance of interpersonal relationships have informed his photographic work for many years. Despite an early-developing and long-lasting affection for comicbooks, Troy found his way into photography during the pursuit of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Milwaukee's Cardinal Stritch University. He has worked in Milwaukee as an independent photographer since 2001, working for various editorial and commercial clients. During this time he has also shown his personal B+W photographs at many Milwaukee venues as well as in juried shows across the USA. A high-point of his career was being invited to photograph 2007's "Milwaukee Mass Portrait," a public art project sponsored by the Menomonee Valley Partners.
Besides working for himself, Troy also serves on the board of a local arts nonprofit called Artists Working in Education, does pro bono photography for the Boulevard Theatre and teaches photography classes in Cardinal Stritch's Outreach Department. He also administers a network for local professional photographers called the FreeTimers PhotoNetwork. Troy and his wife, Rachel Lewandowski, live in Milwaukee, WI.
