Dear All

There are certainly some very interesting discussions here - particularly poignant to the world we now live in. I would like to add another...

I spent much of my career in the UK working in Domestic Abuse. Since returning home to Ireland I have been appalled at the lack of awareness, general discussion and government strategy on this very senstive yet dangerous and criminal matter. I am setting up my own business at the moment and one of the strands is indeed Domestic Abuse. I have a particular passion for highlighting that women are not the only victims - in fact, as many men are victims as women and often the abuse men suffer is much more emotional, verbal and mental thus the damage can be suffered longerterm.

I would be interested in hearing from any of you who have views, opinions and expereinces in this field.

Best wishes and thank you,
Trudi

Hello all....

I was hoping you could help vote for my (socially responsible) agro development project which I have just registered as a contestant of the IdeaBlob contest. This encompasses a framework for sustainable economic development by enhancing the technical capacity of rural farmers. This is a chance for the Backpack Farm to win 10,000 USD. The money doesn't go into our pockets. Instead, the money will be used to launch a demo farm of the project in Nanyuki, Kenya directly impacting the incomes of local farmers while helping to prove our business model building sustainable food production in Africa by empowering rural farmers as entrepreneurs rather than aid recipients.

This competition only last one week, so please take a minute and vote. Please forward this e-mail to friends and colleagues!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your support!

Dear Noel and all members of this group, I have seen and experienced the beauty and deep impact of values-based holistic community development among rural poor families in Orissa, India. The program had immense scope of experiments in trying new ways of capacity building among the poor families through people's institution strengthening, personal leadership development, values inculcation, co-mentoring and co-learning. I hope to learn from the varied experiences of members here and I'd be glad to contribute if people may discuss the above concepts at length.

Hello all.. I am part of several groups here but think this group may be interested in a package for agro development which my team has developed over the last year called the Backpack Farm. The concept is a simple one, an all-in-one canvas backpack with all of the materials a small landholder needs to baseline his quality and quantity of production. The product has been designed to suppport a 1/4, 1/2 and full acre plot. We are NOT advocating subsistence but support a program of assessment, mobilization, training, branding and commercial networking to help institutionalize local food security and income generation. If anyone here is interested in a presentation, please write me directly.

Hello .... I am actively working with agriculture development in East Africa. I believe capacity combined with training and technology is key to the success of both food security and income generation project developmetn. We have designed a unique project called the Backpack Farm (BPF).

This is an all-in-one canvas backpack containing the essential seeds, chemicals and DRIP IRRIGATION needed to develop small farming cooperatives in post conflict countries. These small scale farms are meant to foster cooperative development within homogenous and diverse cultural backgrounds united through knowledge sharing, food production and income generation.

the only way to empower these local communities using agriculture is to build their capacity. If not, we are only supporting subsistence or "kitchen" farming which is ineffective and perpetuates cycles of poverty.
