45% of those who took our website poll felt that donors fund NGOs based on popularity. 33% opined it is based on track record.

Do you find it surprising? Is the finidng in sync with your experience?

If this is the general trend, should NGOs be spending much more on communication than what they are currently allocating?

What did the poll ask? And how did you define 'popularity'?

NGOs ought to be as concerned with performance and transparency ('track record') as they should with brand ('popularity') - ultimately, you can't just do one or the other well...

It was a simple poll..Question was "How do donors select the NGOs they fund"

Popularity is the brand popularity. Agreed that performance and transparency is important. Somehow not equal importance is paid to building of brands. In many cases there just isn't enough funds. In which case NGO chooses to invest it in work rather than building of a brand.
