The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for Southern Africa (UN Women SARO) promotes women’s empowerment and gender equality through financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies.
As coordinator of the Africa UNiTE Campaign, UN Women is organizing a Climb to Mount Kilimanjaro to end violence against women, in partnership with the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) and SAY NO-UNiTE Campaign, with participation from Kilimanjaro Initiative (KI) and Global Bike. The event will take place in March 2012 to coincide with the International Women’s Day on 8 March.
The Climb aims to raise African voices with the message “Speak out, Climb up: Africa UNiTE to end violence against women”, encouraging continent and worldwide response to take action to end violence against women and break the silence on this widespread human rights violation.
What we envisage at the dinner is to fundraise for the African Climbers that will be participating in the historic climb as for the first time a representative from Africa will be represented.
