Event Description

The world is becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependent. This presents opportunities and challenges for businesses, governments and individuals both in the developed world and emerging markets. Businesses who are cognizant of the changing paradigm are updating their business models and strategies.

This event will discuss the changing role of business in society and what businesses and individuals need to do to be successful in the long-term.

Objective

The discussion will explore:
  • What is the context and drivers behind a changing business landscape?

  • What are the main opportunities, challenges and issues facing us?

  • What skills do individuals and future leaders need to possess?

At the conclusion of discussions, we will open up to the floor and invite input from the audience.

This event is a joint collaboration with Gawad Kalinga and Rio Monte.

Business Fights Poverty is our Media Partner.

Gawad Kalinga initiated a national movement to fight poverty in slums all over the Philippines, creating 2000 GK villages to the benefit of 1 million Filipinos. The focus is now on developing 500,000 social entrepreneurs by 2016. The GK model has also been implemented in Indonesia, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea. International recognitions reaffirm the Gawad Kalinga Way for its successful and innovative development model, including Ernst&Young Social Entrepreneur 2010, Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship 2010, Nikkei Asia Awards 2011, the Skoll Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Award 2012 and most recently the World Social Entrepreneur Award from the World Entrepreneur Forum 2012.

Vanezza oversees GK’s activities in the UK and North Europe. Her passion for social inclusion stems from an upbringing in the contrasting countries of Germany and the Philippines.
